Congratulations, its time for you to find a new job! Not just another job, mind you, but a job that will make you can't hardly wait to go to work. Sounds intriguing? Then read on for tips on discovering and landing that perfect job!
- What is a perfect job? You need to have a good idea of what you want in a perfect job. A great exercise would be for you to brainstorm freely about its qualities (e.g. description, compensation, commute, etc.) After you have a good working list, figure out the key traits that you are looking for in the job. By the way, its a good idea to do this exercise with a partner
- What's in a plan? Create a job search strategy, detailing your investment (e.g. time allotted, frequency of search, tracking mechanism, measures of success, etc.)
- What's up, Doc? Hopefully, your success rate. To find out your performance, create an excel spreadsheet to track and measure your performance. Apply your insights into improving your job search efforts (e.g. if my response rate is low after the initial interview, I need to improve my interviewing skills)
- How can I take it up a notch? Utilize your resources to achieve the results your want (e.g. resume reviews, mock interviews, etc.)
- O perfect job, o perfect job, where for are thou, perfect job? Figure out where is the best place, and what's the most efficient way to look for thy job (e.g. job agents, career posting websites)
- Come in, Luke Skywalker? Hopefully, you are highly and favorably visible on your prospective employer's radar, achieved through technical (e.g. renewing your resume's status in Monster) and non-technical (utilizing your networks) means
- O be still, my beating heart: Lastly, and most importantly, are you prepared to dedicate your efforts on looking for a new job? Remember, you are the one that is going to make it work
