Lucky

I had dim sum with my family yesterday. This time, the occasion was a farewell to my cousin and his wife. Sounds rather formal, but in truth, he's a mere 6 months older than me. Our lives, are rather different though.

His parents, or my uncle and aunt, are rather well to do thanks to their hard work. My uncle was an orphan, and my aunt worked her way through a JD. Regardless, they have always been our favorite relatives. Not because they are rich, but because they are always so nice, fun and generous. Yes, these are the folks that host us for our Taiwan trips. Not to mention that when I was young, they would take me with them on their family trips.

Because of his parents, my cousin has always been well taken care of, thanks to my uncle and his connections. Its because of that, that we underestimate his skills. The same goes for his wife, whose father is also well to do. The farewell was because she found a job in China. Prior to the lunch, we thought it was due to my aunt's meddling. She's been wanting them to return to Taiwan. During the lunch, we found out that my cousin in law got the job on her own merit. By the way, she was quite disgruntled as she preferred to stay in the US as opposed to moving to China.

The point of the story is, lucky or not, you blaze your own way.
