Unforgettable Birthday Present

  • Money spent on the event: $$$
  • Time spent to make the event happen: 12 hours
  • Feeling you get after the event: priceless

I am indecently obsessed with an Indian actor,
Shahrukh Khan (SRK). This all started a year ago, when we discovered Netflix, and its Bollywood collection. A friend forwarded me an announcement to an SRK event as a joke. Little did she know, that I really wanted to go.

But it was $$$. So my awesome bf sponsored me to go to the event. I didn't know much about the event except for the fact that I will see SRK, and take a pix with him. What I did not realize, was that the event was on India time.

According to the posting, the event was to start at 8PM. I showed up at 7:30PM to pick up my tix, and was taken offguard by the sheer melee. There were lines, but they weren't moving. Then, people began shoving, so I pretended that I was at a chinese market, and shoved as well. Half an hour later, I got my tix. Thanks to a happy mistake, I was upgraded to a VVIP, which meant that I was two tables away from the stage. Needless to say, I was very happy.

Fastforward 3.5 hours, the actor showed up. There was an 1 hour Q&A session, and then we were supposed to do the photo op, which did not happen. At 1:30AM, we were informed of the make up photo session tomorrow afternoon.

So on July 4th, my new friends and I showed up at the W hotel 45 minutes early. After the scheduled time passed, there was still no action. In fact, we were shooed off the lobby. While waiting outside in the cold, I called the president of the organization that put on the event to find out what was happening. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a hold of him, so I began calling other numbers as well. Then, I got a callback from the president himself.

I explained to him the situation, and asked him if I should stick around some more or just take off. He asked me to stick around, and promised that he will make something happen for me. And he was true to his words. An hour later, we took this photo as the actor was taking off for the airport. My friends and I were deliriously happy.

This is the first time that I went to see an entertainer, and one of the craziest things I have done. I was proud of myself for making the photo op happen for myself and 30+ people that were around.

Money is a means to happiness, but there are times in which you need to just make things happen for yourself. So a big thank u to my bf for this lovely birthday present, and a big pat on my back for taking matters into my own hands.
