Sometimes happiness, and sometimes tears

I just watched this Indian movie, and my, is it a tear jerker. Its about how a father disowned his adopted son due to his choice in wife. Years later, his other son tried to bring the family back together. It reminded me of my family.

Of my eldest sister, Shih-Lin, actually. She cut herself out from our family years ago by moving away to New York. We see her once a year. Even when we are together, she is ever so polite... that it almost seems like we are strangers as opposed to sisters.

We always wondered what caused the move. After all, its not everyday that your sister declares that she is leaving, and leaves. Life was hard for her at first, she had to waitress. Fortunately, she took classes, and moved up the corporate ladder. Now she is a IT consultant with steady clients.

The unfortunate part is that she holds us at arms length. My sister does her familial duties, but nothing more.
We don't have her contact information. I can't help feeling that I lost a sister.
